		Between 1978-1982, Willy Claes was Minister of Economic Affairs in four governments led by Wilfried Martens, and in one headed by Mark Eyskens.
		Claes was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
		Claes was nominated by NATO Foreign Ministers to succeed Manfred Wörner as Secretary General of NATO.

		Willy Claes (born November 24, 1938) was Secretary General of NATO and a Belgian politician.
		Claes was foreign minister of Belgium from 1992 until 1994, and secretary general of NATO from 1994 until 1995, when he was forced to resign because of allegations of corruption related to improper contracts for Agusta helicopters approved by him while he was minister of economic affairs.
