  Comic creator: Willy Vandersteen
Willebrord Jan Frans Maria Vandersteen was born in one of the poorer areas of the Belgian city of Antwerp in 1913.
Willy Vandersteen got married to his wife Paula in 1937, and soon had to provide for a family in the barren conditions of the Second World War.
Willy Vandersteen is survived by his Studio and several of his comic series, which continue to be very popular.

illebrord Jan Frans Maria Vandersteen was born at February 15, 1913 in the Seefhoek, a district of Antwerp.
Further development in the career of Vandersteen was achieved when he was asked by Hergé, the spiritual father of Tintin, to make stories for the Flemish edition of the magazine Tintin, which wasn't very successful at the time (1948).
Vandersteen drew only the fist stories for many of the series he created, later limiting himself to the supply of scripts before he completely handed them over.

Belgian author/artist Willy Vandersteen's Suske and Wiske have been around for quite some time.
The first 66 episodes were published in fl-and-white; numbers 67-132 are the same books, reissued in color, and then the series continues from there.
I only have about 20 of them, and some time between #177 and #226 Vandersteen must have died or retired: although his name continues to appear at the top of the front cover of subsequent books, an interior credit names Paul Geerts as both author and artist.

The Suske and Wiske comics were created by the Belgian artist Willy Vandersteen (born in Antwerp, March 15, 1913, died in Edegem, August 28, 1990, image 43kB) The first strip of Suske and Wiske appeared in the Belgian newspaper De nieuwe Standaard on March 30, 1945.
One of the most interesting periods in Vandersteen's development is the period in which he worked together with Hergé, the creator of Tintin (1948-1959).
Apart from Suske and Wiske Willy Vandersteen created many comics that are well known in the Lower Countries: Bessy, The Red Knight, Jerom, Karl May and Robert and Bertrand.
