  Pacific Salmon In Lake Ontario - Research
The evolution of a wild population of Pacific salmon from initial hatchery releases in Lake Ontario affords us many opportunities to study important scientific and conservation issues including adaptation, rates of evolution, and ecological determinants of success that are related to invasion biology, biodiversity, and the role of hatcheries in restoring natural populations.
Wilmot Creek — an un-stocked river — was chosen as the target river to intensively sample over a period of 8 weeks during the spring juvenile emergence and growth period.
One hypothesis to explain the recent increase of Chinook wild production in Lake Ontario may be that the naturalizing populations have higher levels of thiamine in their eggs and so are experiencing reduced levels of EMS than their hatchery ancestors.

We do know for certain that Harrison Case was an Ontario pioneer and well respected carpenter in the small community of Beachville, Ontario--who with his wife Lodemia resided there from 1849 until they died in 1891.
Wilmot's rather unusual name may (or may not) give us a hint as to Harrison Case's background: There is a New England Case family with ties to the English Wilmot surname, and a couple of the male descendants in that family were saddled with Wilmot as a given name.
Wilmot married Eliza (or Louisa) Van Slyke of Zorra Township on November 4, 1856 in Ingersoll.

 Steelhead Fishing in Wilmot Creek Ontario Canada
Wilmot is a small stream between Bowmanville and Newcastletrickling into Lake Ontario that flows, about 70 km from downtown Toronto heading east on the 401.
We headed for Lake Ontario and found the marina in Bowmanville where the creek flowed into the Lake.
This had to be prime carp territory, and we did indeed see several of the giant gold fish swimming a couple of feet from the shore, mere shadows gliding through the muddy water.
