In the township the population was spread out with 25.1% under the age of 18, 6.3% from 18 to 24, 26.8% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older.
The median income for a household in the township was $34,911, and the median income for a family was $40,298.

Packer was born April 2, 1807 in Howard Township, Centre County, to a family of English and Quaker ancestry, James Packer and Charity Bye.
Between 1832 and 1835 Packer served as superintendent of the West Branch Division of the Pennsylvania Canal.
He garnered more votes than both Wilmot and Hazelhurst combined, which some attribute to Packer's stand on the issue of whether Kansas should be admitted to the Union with or without slavery.
