The Wiluna area was first explored by the explorer Lawrence Wells in 1892.

Philip Michael Jeffery was born in Wiluna, Western Australia, in 1937 and was educated at Cannington and East Victoria Park State Schools and Kent Street High School.
From 1981-83 he headed Australia's national counter-terrorist coordination authority in the rank of Brigadier, after which he was posted as Commander of the 1st Mechanised and Airborne Brigade in Holsworthy, Sydney.
On 1 November 1993, he was sworn in as the 27th Governor of Western Australia, and became a Companion of the Order of Australia, a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order and a Citizen of Western Australia for his services to the State.

A shower estimated at 500 to 1000 stones fell late on September 2, 1967 near Wiluna in Western Australia.
Over 150kilos was recovered but nearly all of it is in Museums in Australia, the Museum of Perth has 145 kilos.
This is an Ordinary Chondrite H 5, with a brown matrix and a lot of metal.

He was privileged to command all combat units of the Australian Army from a 30 man Platoon to a 12,500 strong Division and held senior staff appointments as Assistant Chief of the General Staff Logistics, Deputy Chief of the General Staff and Assistant Chief of the General Staff Materiel.
For his services to the State he was appointed a Companion of the Order of Australia, a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order and jointly with his wife Marlena a Citizen of Western Australia.

On 22 November 2000, Southern Cross Resources Australia released a supplementary Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) into the mine - which is expected to be assessed by the federal and SA governments by early 2001.
The Western Australian Government has announced a ban on mining uranium and thorium for nuclear purposes, under mining leases granted from June 23, 2002.
The Ecologically Sustainable Development Committee of Western Australia's Legislative Council is to examine uranium mining proposals in the state, and provide opportunity for public comment on them in September.

 Monthly Favourite Meteorite (Millbillillie) - Meteorites Australia
The Millbillillie meteorite was observed to fall about 1:00pm in October, 1960 by two men opening a gate in the boundary fence along the Millbillillie - Jundee Station track near Wiluna in Western Australia.
No search was initiated at the time, however later in 1970 and 1971 a relative and friend of one of the original witnesses found the first two stones.
One weighing 20kg (Main Mass) which is now in the Western Australia Museum and a smaller 565g piece.

In November 1993 Jeffery was appointed Governor of Western Australia, and in June 1996 he became a Companion of the Order of Australia.
