The Wimmera CMA Region in Western Victoria, referred to as the Wimmera Region, contains the Wimmera River catchment and part of the Millicent Coast Basin to the South Australian border.
The Wimmera is diverse; with mountains, plains and desert, moist foothill forest, box ironbark forest, woodlands, grasslands, mallee heath and mallee woodlands.
The objective for this asset is that flow regime and water quality of wetlands and streams in the Wimmera River basin should be sufficient for recreation, stock and domestic purposes while sustaining viable populations of native flora and fauna.

July and August are traditionally the busiest times for Wimmera Landcare Groups and for volunteers involved in the 3 major community Landcare events, Plantout, Yarrilinks and Project Hindmarsh.

 Education Kit for Wimmera (from Mount Arapiles) by Sidney Nolan
Between 1942 and 1944 Nolan was conscripted into the army and was stationed in the Wimmera in western Victoria.
In the Wimmera he did sketches on the spot, but these were explorations rather than preparatory sketches for his later paintings.
Nolan's Wimmera paintings were all studio works, painted from memory and without preliminary drawing.

It is single-storey brick structure that was built in 1877 as the Lowan Shire Hall, becoming the headquarters of Dimboola Shire council from 1885 to 1914.
