After Prinsloo's surrender, it was thought that the war was over in the Orange River Colony, but de Wet with his commando was active in the Kroonstad district, and Olivier was reported to be at Frankfort and marching to join him, both commandos showing that they still had plenty of fight left in them.

Four suspects, including the driver of their car, were arrested at Makeleketla, outside Winburg, hours after Nico Bezuidenhout was shot dead and his wife was wounded on their farm at Excelsior.
Belliene Bezuidenhout managed to drive to a nearby farm for help after having been shot in the head and was admitted to the Winburg Hospital.
