Welcome to Poznan & Wielkopolska 06/2000
Stanisław Mikołajczyk was a front-page politician, a worthy activist in the peasant movement, a colleague of the charismatic Wincenty Witos, and a man who twice in his life occupied the highest post in the land, yet on both occasions stood in a hopeless position.
For this reason, he kept in contact with the peasant leader Wincenty Witos, who was in exile abroad, and with the opposition Morges Front, led by Ignacy Jan Paderewski.
Unlike Witos, he did not stress his country roots - he was both a farmer and, at the same time, a politician.

 Poland and Polish Forum
Wincenty Witos who was Prime Minister in 1920 was opposed to Pilsudki’s federalist policies and worked strongly to discredit Pilsudski both politically and militarily.
Witos, in the treaty of Riga, refused the Soviet offer of all of Byelorus in their suing for peace, as that would have enabled Pilsudki’s Federalist plans for a Commonwealth of Lithuania, Byelorus, and Ukraine along with Poland.
Witos, of course is a different kettle of fish and a somewhat rotten one.
