Wind turbine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For a given survivable wind speed, the mass of a turbine is approximately proportional to the cube of its blade-length.
For large, commercial size horizontal-axis wind turbines, the generator is mounted in a nacelle at the top of a tower, behind the hub of the turbine rotor.

 wind shear
wind shear, a sudden, drastic change in wind direction or speed over a comparatively short distance.
Microburst wind shear is an extremely violent downward blast of air that hits the earth and radiates outward.
With its sharp shifts in wind direction and relative wind speed, it can cause an aircraft to lose lift and crash, especially during takeoff or landing, when the slower speeds and closeness to the ground make altitude correction more difficult.

Upper-level dynamics must have been very intense in the warm sector that day as well, given the tornado moved at an average of just over 60 mph.
Strong wind shear (south at the surface then west-southwest aloft) gave the storm rotation.
The tornado may have been influenced by the surface low, because the storm moved almost in the exact same path as the surface low.

Books are accessed through the Auraria Library catalog, Skyline, using an Author search (for authors, other individuals, and corporate entities listed as authors, i.e.
United States, Federal Aviation Administration), a WORD search (for subjects such as avionics, wind shear, air crashes or biplanes), or a Title search (for titles of books).
A Periodical Title search will help you locate magazines, journals, or newspapers that we own such as Aviation Consumer or Aviation Week and Space Technology.

After the Skylab and Apollo-Soyuz Test Projects of the early and mid-1970s, NASA’s human space flight efforts again resumed in 1981, with the Space Shuttle program that continues today to help build the International Space Station.
Building on its NACA roots, NASA has continued to conduct many types of cutting-edge aeronautics research on aerodynamics, wind shear, and other important topics using wind tunnels, flight testing, and computer simulations.
NASA’s highly successful X-15 program involved a rocket-powered airplane that flew above the atmosphere and then glided back to Earth unpowered, providing Shuttle designers with much useful data.
