It has been said that the sailors of the windjammers were tough men with pride in the great powerful ships that has not been matched since the windjammers passed from the sea.

Though the splendid Nestico charts are wonderful raw material for a CD compilation, their effective translation into performance requires two things: an ensemble capable of handling the substantial technical and artistic demands of the arrangements, and a conductor sufficiently comfortable with both the jazz and symphonic idioms to pull it all together.
Windjammers also serves up a wistful and evocative version of Londonderry Air, while Anitra's Dance is transformed into a lilting jazz waltz, and swingy versions of Comin' through the Rye and Song of the Volga Boatmen (lots of vodka, here) continue the tradition of sympathetic adaptation.
A wonderful touch is the cover design; a lovely painting of a real windjammer by the late British artist Montague J. Dawson, coincidentally (and delightfully) entitled "Swinging Along".

Defense is key but difficult to master in Windjammers; if you zig when you should have zagged, you're toast, and the computer A.I. knows how to play the game very well.
Windjammers is another oddball in the Neo library--it draws on previous games but synthesizes them into something new.
For a proper SAT analogy, "Windjammers is to Pong as Magical Drop is to Tetris." Maybe it's more like "...as Money Puzzle Exchanger is to Magical Drop," though, because Windjammers doesn't necessarily improve that much on the original Pong formula--it just bulks it up and throws in some new and unusual options.

Windjammers is a wonderful idea, that while a new type of game, really is nothing more than your basic Pong theme updated 15 years or so.
As two player games go, Windjammers is just about the most fun you can have pushing buttons rapidly.
If you see it in an arcade, or for sale, Windjammers is highly recommended.

It is the 13th year the Windjammers have been a featured attraction at the Michigan Challenge-every year sponsored by Blue Cross/Blue Shield and Blue Care Network of MI.

On September 17, 2003 at the “Wet Wednesday” race at the Tahoe Windjammers Yacht Club on Lake Tahoe, the 65-degree air was blowing 25 knots, with three to four foot seas.
The medal was presented to Lynn Wright, Mike Robinson, and Michelle Langlois on Wednesday December 10, 2003 at the Tahoe Windjammers Yacht Club annual Christmas and Trophy award party held at the Harvey's hotel/casino Top of the Wheel meeting room, in Lake Tahoe.
