Paul Thurrott's SuperSite for Windows: Introducing Windows 2000 Server, A Windows 2000 technology showcase
Windows 2000 is the most exciting and important product that Microsoft has ever created, a family of operating systems aimed at the corporate server and desktop markets that combines the latest technology with ease-of-use and simplicity features.
When the Windows NT team sat down in late 1996 to determine the features that should be included in Windows 2000, they took a hard look at the changing landscape of the PC industry and the way that computers are used, managed, and administrated.
Windows NT 4.0, in particular, was vulnerable to the so-called "Blue Screen of Death" (BSOD), which usually brought the system to a halt when a poorly written device driver overran the protected memory area of the system kernel.

 Macs and Windows 2000
The server versions of Windows 2000 (formerly know as Windows NT 5) come with an enhanced version of Services for Macintosh, which is the subject of most of this preview report.
Windows NT servers only report up to 2 (or 4) GB disk size to Mac, the same math gives 32 K (or 64 K) minimum file size, and again that is exactly what the Mac shows.
We have rebooted the Win2000 server a number of times in the last two weeks, and have noticed that Mac OS 8.6 users have had their AppleShare Prep files modified and/or corrupted if those users were logged in to the server when it was restarted.
