Winfield Scott Hammond, the youngest son of Hervey Hammond, was born in Lewisberry September 11, 1847.
Hammond being a "Radical" (in Missouri politics) was offered the office of county clerk in one of the southeastern counties, which he refused and returned home to take charge of the window-spring business, and became owner and controller of the popular springs, which he has manufactured and sold with great success.
Hammond is a descendant of the Friends of Chester County, her ancestors being of the celebrated Taylor, Sharpless, Lloyd and Starr families, and is an active member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

This is Kevin Ryan, an original founding member and bass player of The Undecided and The Winfield Scott Band.
Dan’s mother insisted we open with Wipeout which was one of our great songs, however, we had a very cheap Bogen PA and could barely be heard in the stands.
Having started as a 4-piece ensemble in (sort of) matching outfits, the new sounding 5-piece band was running smack dab into psychedelia and we wanted a name the captured that feel as well as the times.

An inscription under a bust of Hammond in the capitol describes him aptly as "a scholar in politics." He earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Dartmouth College and upon moving to Mankato at age 21, became principal of its high school.
Hammond had been in office only eight months when he suffered ptomaine poisoning on a trip south and died of a stroke in a little bayou town in Louisiana.

He was admitted to the bar in 1891, and then established his legal career, serving as the Watonwan County prosecuting attorney from 1895 to 1896 and 1900 to 1905.
Hammond entered politics in 1907, serving as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, a position he held until 1915.
