Wings has a lot of good things going for it, such as the persuasive artwork and animation, meticulous attention to detail, and the extensive research that must have gone into an endeavor such as this.
Although Wings is pure fiction, the politics, bureaucracy, and media influence that are described in this movie bear more than a passing resemblance to the headlines gracing the paper during the time of the space race.
However, as a stand-alone movie, Wings is still good viewing, but is spotty enough in places to keep it from being included among the best of the best.

Generally Wings of Honneamise is a serious film containing scenes of warfare, political corruption and an attempted rape, although it does have its lighter moments.

WINGS OF HONNEAMISE is uncommon in virtually every way.

Simply put, Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise is one of the finest animated films ever made, and I would say one of the finest films ever made, period.
Technically speaking, Wings of Honneamise is gorgeous, but as subtle as the plot.
My only, very minor, complaint was the fact that most of it sounded synthesized (which seemed to be an only partially successful attempt to create sounds unlike insturments from earth, and was a bit disappointing considering the richness of the rest of the production), but that did not detract from the impressive composition.

The Wings of Honneamise (preceded by 'Royal Space Force' in the US) is one of those landmark films that everyone should see at least once.
Presented in Non-Anamorphic widescreen in the original language with English subtitles this is an interesting addition to this DVD that unfortunately lacks any kind of explanation as to why it was cut and where in the film it would have been seen (although you should be able to work that out upon viewing).
As a film Honneamise ranks up there as one of my all time favourites and because of this I have no hesitation in recommending it to both the seasoned anime audience and the more adventurous film fan.
