Wink (game) - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-16)
Wink was originally played by groups of Young Quakers in the 1800's.
In this version of the game, which was something like musical chairs, a man without a partner (the "wink") would get one of the women's attention by winking at her, whereupon she would stand up and walk over to his chair.
When someone finally manages to kiss the Wink, his or her partner becomes the new Wink, and the Wink becomes the winner's partner for the next round.

Six Critics Review Walter Wink's The Human Being: Jesus and the Enigma of the Son of Man
Wink’s objective in this volume is to recover the true meaning of the humanity of Jesus, which was to a large extent appreciated by the Jesus’ movement and by the earliest Christian church, but was eclipsed already by the mid-second century when the church became preoccupied with the question of the divinity of Jesus.
Wink’s approach to this issue is in the spirit of trying to disclose the original truths of Christianity and express them in modes that speak to interested folk in our day, in a manner that will feed both our quest for self understanding and for transcendental insights.
Wink thinks the center of that issue is a new way of thinking about what it means to be a human being before the face of God, the thing Jesus intended to convey by his self-designation as The Son of The Man. The crucial thing about Jesus is not his divinity but his humanness.

Wink (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia) :: Bible Tools
wink (razam, literally, "to roll the eyes"): The act or habit of winking was evidently considered to be evil both in its motives and in its results.
In the New Testament the word is used to express the longsuffering patience and forgiveness of God toward erring Israel: "And the times of this ignorance God winked at" (Acts 17:30 the King James Version, hupereidon, "overlooked," and so translated in the Revised Version (British and American); compare The Wisdom of Solomon 11:23; Ecclesiasticus 30:11).
The use of "winked" in this connection would in our day, of course, be considered in bad taste, if not actually irreverent, but it is an excellent example of the colloquialism of the King James Version.
