The Pooh stories have been translated into many languages, notably including Alexander Lenard's Latin translation, Winnie ille Pu, which was first published in 1958 and in 1960 became the first foreign-language book to feature on the New York Times Bestseller List.
Winnie's eventual destination was to be the Assiniboine Park Zoo in Winnipeg, but at the end of the War, the officers of the Fort Garry Horse decided to allow her to remain in the London Zoo, where she was much loved for her playfulness.

Nancy stayed in her usual elegant suite at the Savoy Hotel while Pooh made himself as comfortable as possible in the giant hotel safe, until he was released for some exciting expotitions and to be photographed with me and Diane outside the hotel entrance in the Strand.
The only connection to the history of Pooh in Christopher Milne's house was an enlargement of this photograph in a wood frame lovingly carved by him hanging at the top of the stairs of his home in Devon.
