	Winnipeg Jets - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
		The Winnipeg Jets were an ice hockey franchise that existed in both the World Hockey Association and the National Hockey League.
		Winnipeg's fortunes were bolstered by acquisitions such as Swedish forwards Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson, who starrred with Hull on the WHA's most famous and successful forward line, and defenceman Lars-Erik Sjoberg, who would serve as the team's captain and win accolades as the WHA's best defenceman.
		Shane Doan is the last Jet to remain with the Winnipeg-Phoenix franchise.

		Publicly owned since 1974 the Jets are required to be purchased by a private investor upon joining the NHL as a group led by Barry Shenkarow purchases the team from Jets fans who proudly paid $25 a share to buy a piece of the team.
		After the MEC fell apart, and a retirement ceremony for the Jets logo and Thomas Steen's #25 were held Operation Grassroots was started in an effort to persuade government and local buyers to construct a new arena and keep the Jets in Winnipeg.
		Approximately $250,000 is raised at this rally from the citizens of Winnipeg.

		The Jets made the playoffs, beating Minnesota and Houston in the playoffs before losing in the AVCO Cup Finals to New England.
		In 1973-74, Hull led the Jets with 53 goals, but the Jets fell to 4th place, and fell in the playoffs to Houston in the first round.
		Winnipeg spent some time at the Moscow Izvestia Cup Tournament in December 1976 as a reward for winning the AVCO Cup in 1975-76.
