Despite his blindness Winston went on to be elected as Chairman of the CPUSA and served in that capacity until his death.

The Winston Guards were organized and mustered into the service of the state of Mississippi on March 16, 1861 at Louisville, Mississippi by Lieutenant William H. Gray of the Prairie Guards.
John and Joseph joined the Guards when the unit was organized in March 1861, with John being elected Captain and Joseph Third Lieutenant.
In May 1861, these men left Winston County as idealistic volunteers fighting for what they believed to be the independence of their new country, much as their forefathers had done in 1776.

The current ballpark was configured in 1940 and named Neahwa Park Field, and the current stadium configuration dates back to 1968, when it was renovated and then renamed after a local baseball booster.
Baseball at Damaschke Field is a true community affair: team owner Sam Nader (formerly the mayor of Oneonta) runs the show in a very hands-on fashion, and because of the intimate nature of the ballpark you'll find neighbors chatting up neighbors throughout.
Another design problem with Damaschke Field: the bleachers are actually set off quite a ways from the field, and the only way to navigate through the stadium is to walk in front of the crowd.
