Berkshire magistrates wrote to the government concerning dis­tress among the labourers of the county in early 1830.
The Berkshire Commissioners, Sir James Allan Park, Sir William Bolland and Sir John Patteson, were met by the High Sheriff on the 27th December.
Winterbourne was executed at Reading on January 11 and buried at Kintbury.

The Berkshire Healthcare Trust acknowledged that the cash from the eastern Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) would not be available — they had hoped the East Berks PCTs would commission them to provide psychotherapy service next year — and pay £260,000 for it.
A spokesman said no decisions have yet been taken on the number of staff who might be affected and was unable to say how many people had already been made redundant in the cuts.
And Philippa Slinger, chief executive of Berkshire Healthcare, said: “Everybody is disappointed that we won’t now be able to increase our psychotherapy service in the east, but the NHS has got to live within its means.

The BRO holds many records of the Board of Guardians of the Newbury Union but they will need to be approached to determine exactly what will be relevant to specific research, ie.
The BRO produces a 52 page booklet titled "Guide to the records of the New Poor Law and its Successors in Berkshire, 1835 - 1948", dated 1979, from which the list of parishes in the Union was drawn (also in the BerksFHS Research Centre).
It is probably out of date due to receipt of further holding since 1979 but it was still on sale recently and we may have a copy for sale in our Bookshop.

The Berkshire Healthcare Trust is £12 million overspent and has produced a plan to claw the cash back by 2006 through staff cuts and transferring patients out of the trust’s care.
He is also calling on the Department of Health to pick up the tab for running Winterbourne House, the psychotherapy centre in Argyle Road, which he described as a “groundbreaking therapeutic community which has pioneered a day programme for the treatment of personality disorders over the last 30 years.”
Mr Salter has also sent a formal protest to Nick Relph, TVHA chief executive, claiming he has failed to reply to letters from him, and to Slough MP Fiona Mactaggart, calling for a meeting to discuss the cash crisis in mental health care.

I also remembered that William Kearvell (1840-1915) from West Stoke Sussex had married Amelia Parsons, who had been born at Shaw-cum-Donnington Berkshire.
I sent for a copy of Harriet Parson’s birth certificate and this confirmed that she had been born on 18 December 1860 at Winterbourne Berkshire, which is in the Speen Sub-Registration District.
