  Wired 14.09: The Infinite Album
Such is the future of the album, as envisioned by Beck; it's something to be heard, seen, and reconstituted by artist and audience alike.
The very logistics and economics of the music industry are at stake, as one album becomes a long shelf of songs and products, each carrying its own release date, distribution path, and price tag.
I've been toying with the idea of replacing album art with moving graphics that would pop up on your computer when you played songs from the album.

Jeff Beck - Wired Review - sputnikmusic
Wired is another one of those album covers, and is almost instantly recognizable by many music fans.
Wired was Beck's first foray from his blues/Yardbirds roots into the world of electronic music.
Wired is a good album, although some might turn a blind eye to it because A) it has the word 'jazz' in the genre title and B) it's all instrumental, if you couldn't tell.

Wired - Jeff Beck - Song Listings
Wired is well balanced by looser, riff-oriented material and Walden's more intricate compositions.
One of Wired's finest tracks is an arrangement of Charles Mingus' "Goodbye Pork Pie Hat." Beck's playing is particularly alluring: cleanly ringing tones, weeping bends, and sculpted feedback form a resonant palette.
On Wired, with first-rate material and collaborators on hand, one of rock's most compelling guitarists is in top form.

Between 1990 and 2000, album sales had doubled, the fastest growth rate in the history of the industry.
By the end of 2005 (down another 8.3 percent), album sales in the US had declined 20 percent from their 1999 peak.
Twenty-one of the all-time top 100 albums were released in the five-year period between 1996 and 2000.

Slant Magazine - Music Review: Old 97's: Alive & Wired
While their studio albums positioned the band as a less obtuse, more jagged version of Wilco—complete with a foray into power-pop on 2001's exceptional Satellite Rides—their live reputation has always maintained that Old 97's are a frenetic, sweaty bar-rock outfit.
What Alive & Wired does best is reconcile the considerable charms of the band's studio output with the immediacy of their live shows' energy, and the Old 97's captured on this essential double-album is a band that lands at the midpoint between Wilco's high-minded songcraft and the ball-busting rock swagger of Drive-By Truckers.
The album's lone drawback is a lack of new material—only "Iron Road" isn't found on an earlier release—but with such killer material in the vault, it's hard to fault Old 97's for simply looking back on the kind of career most bands in rock, country, and pop can scarcely imagine.

 Lou Reed Band Reviews
This album was compiled from a series of shows, some of which were more than three hours long (with some versions of songs reportedly lasting up to forty minutes.) When it came time to release the original double LP set, editing decisions of course had to be made.
Lou Reeds 4th album Sally Cant Dance is usually not regarded as one of his most appreciated albums; often criticized for being too heavily weighed down by too much horn and female voices. And yes, I agree on this, to some extent.
The album ends with the 9+ minute title track, and it does start off as a nice mood piece with a 3-note bass lick, synth, electric piano, trumpet, and spoken vocals buried in the mix, but it ultimately leads to Reeds improvised sung part and a pompous chant near the end.

Beck: The Becklash Is About To Begin - Idolator
The new album is not a great Beck album but it's a first-rate aural wallpaper album, which of course means it must be destroyed by the hipoisie.
Beck's only mistake was waiting only 18 months between albums, breaking his normal two-year cycle; it makes him more visible and gives bloggers and hipsters more to bitch about.
Wired: Guero, with all its various versions and releases, seems to have heralded the end of the album as we know it.

Jay-Z released an a capella version of his Black Album to make remixes easier, and the The Grey Album is just one of many.
Danger Mouse’s album is one of the most "respectful" and undeniably positive examples of sampling; it honors both the Beatles and Jay-Z. Yet the lawyers and bureaucrats at EMI have shown zero flexibility and not a glimmer of interest in the artistic significance of this work.
The Grey Album is only one of the thousands of legitimate and valuable efforts that have been stifled by the record industry-- not to mention the ones that were never even attempted because of the current legal climate.

Artistically, such studio guitarist solo albums also are varied in results: almost always the musicianship is outstanding, but often, the guitarist takes a scattershot approach, playing lots of styles without really establishing a particular identity.
The album begins with a piece in the George Benson tradition called Cayman Moon, tastefully done, though full enough of clichés that it stands a good chance to be played on so-called "lite jazz' commercial radio.
Sonically, the album gets "ears up." The mix is very good, with the exception of the acoustic piano which has that annoying excessively bright Nashville sound that makes Matt Rollings' grand piano sound almost like a honky-tonk upright.

With the Love Songs compilation having just returned Cliff Richard to the top of the U.K. chart and I'm No Hero having maintained the quality of his last couple of studio records, hopes were high for Wired for Sound, his first new LP of the 1980s.
And, for the most part, the album lived up to those expectations.
Elsewhere, though, Wired for Sound continues driving into fresh (for Cliff Richard) territory, even as songs like "Say You Don't Mind," "Summer Rain," and "Young Love" restate the moody balladic parameters that he always stalked.

DJ Danger Mouse did just that and created the Grey Album, by mixing Jay-Z's vocals (taken from a CD of just the vocal tracks from the Black Album) over music tracks built using samples from the White Album.
Under current copyright law, the Grey Album is clearly illegal—the right to make derivative works is an exclusive right of the copyright holder.
Fair use sampling fails to reach the creative goals that remixers like Danger Mouse want to achieve: to mix two (or more) distinctive and unique sources in a new and novel fashion that combines signature elements of each source so that each source is readily identifiable in the remix.

But while the album sparkles with instantly memorable Celtic tunes, there's layer upon layer of detail to absorb.
McGoldrick's world/jazz music influences, and a healthy refusal to conform to the rulebook where traditional music is concerned, come into play at every turn, and the result is absolutely seductive: his playing is passionate and expressive throughout.
McGoldrick is striding out confidently with Wired, yet there's no sign of a cocky, complacent swagger -- beneath his technical wizardry lies a deep understanding and respect for, and a seemingly insatiable desire to bring new sounds to, the Celtic tradition.
