Wire entanglement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The entanglement could in some places be scores of metres thick and several metres deep, with the entire space filled with a random, tangled mass of barbed wire.
Entanglements were often not created deliberately, but by pushing together the mess of wire formed when conventional barbed wire fences had been damaged by artillery shells.
Wire entaglements, together with machine guns, were responsible for many casualties in the trench warfare of World War I.

Wire obstacle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Depending on the requirements and available resources, wire obstacles may range from a simple barbed wire fence in front of a defensive position, to elaborate patterns of fences, concertinas, "dragon's teeth" and minefields hundreds of metres thick.
One example is the "low wire entanglement", which consists of irregularly placed stakes that have been driven into the ground with only some 15 cm (six inches) showing; the barbed wire is then wrapped and tightened on to these.
The "knife rest" or "Spanish rider" is a modern wire obstacle functionally similar to the cheval de frise, and sometimes called that.

Lone Sentry: Barbed-Wire Obstacles, German (WWII U.S. Intelligence Bulletin, September 1943)
On beaches, barbed wire is usually erected in straight lines, parallel to the shore and in front of fortified areas.
In conjunction with road blocks, a wire fence or entanglement is often erected on each side of the road, and the gap between is closed by movable gates of various types.
Wire obstacles in depth are usually installed in places where they will be screened as far as possible against observation by opposing forces.

Process for producing an anisotropically electroconductive sheet - Patent 4209481
The length of conductive wires 3 is essentially the same as the thickness of elastomeric sheet 2, and typically both ends of the wires are exposed on the surface of the sheet 2.
While the wire groupings 6 of the present invention have been shown having a cross-sectional pattern in the plane of the elastomer sheet 2 which is substantially circular in shape, it is anticipated by the present invention that the wire groupings 6 may be of patterns other than a circular pattern.
Some of the wires become attached to the surface of the containing plates or film sheets during the pouring of the starting mixture into the mold, and it is these wires which are not affected by a magnetic field in a direction perpendicular to the sheet.

 MINE-BLASTER: The APOBS Breaching Weapon
And while the torpedo is effective against single impulse anti-personnel mines, it's only marginally successful against high-tensile strength wire obstacles, which would necessitate the need for multiple torpedoes to breech wire.
One of the limits of the APOBS is that it is a standoff weapon, and cannot be employed effectively in situations where there isn't 25-35 meters of distance (not necessarily open space) between the launcher and the obstacle.
In addition, the APOBS is a no-more, no-less system; with the Bangalore if all you need to breech is a 10-foot wide wire entanglement, you need only use two 5 foot sections, whereas with the APOBS you use all 150 feet of line charge when it is fired.

A wire transfer from Vienna City Hall via a cable running through the sewer system to a bank a few blocks away has marked the first real-world use of cryptography that takes advantage of the weird quantum phenomenon of entanglement.
And although the first laboratory demonstration of entanglement-based quantum cryptography occurred in 1998, the Vienna wire transfer is the first public demonstration that entangled particles can survive the rigors of practical application.
On April 21, 2004, researchers from the University of Vienna in Austria, ARC Seibersdorf Research GmbH in Austria, the University of Munich in Germany, and the Austrian Academy of Sciences transferred a secret encryption key using the perfectly secure entangled-state quantum cryptography demonstration system connecting Vienna City Hall and Bank Austria Creditanstalt.
