Wisconsin Senate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Wisconsin Senate, whose powers are modeled after those of the U.S. Senate, is the upper house of the Wisconsin State Legislature, smaller than the Wisconsin State Assembly.
Wisconsin is divided into 33 Senate Districts apportioned amongst the state based on population as determined by the decennial census, for a total of 33 Senators.
Similar to the U.S. Senate, in addition to its duty of passing all legislation passed through the legislature, the State Senate has the exclusive responsibility of confirming certain Governor's appointments, particularly cabinet secretaries (as part of the system of checks and balances) and members of boards and commissions.

The state is proposing to take advantage of new types of on-site sewage technologies that are not as reliant on soil percolation to purify human waste and guarantee clean ground water resources.
In 1985 (14 years ago!) I was contracted by the state legislature to undertake a study on the impact of new types of private, on-site sewage systems, and the new administrative rules being considered for these systems.
The state's health-based regulations for on-site sewage systems were acting as a form of state-based land use planning policy, keeping certain land from development, and most local governments knew and appreciated this.

The systematic documentation and evaluation of our state's submerged cultural resources has been — and continues to be — important in integrating these resources into state and federal resource management and preservation programs.
In January 1988 the Wisconsin state Legislature provided initial funding for the Wisconsin Historical Society to conduct a study of underwater archaeological resources with the purpose of improving the management of historic shipwrecks and developing underwater preserve areas for resource protection and recreation.
This program was the result of new state and federal efforts to protect and manage submerged cultural resources in the state by means of the 1987 Wisconsin Act 395 and the federal Abandoned Shipwreck Act of 1987.
