Co-produced by the band and Tero Kinnunen, the album’s tour de force, ‘The Kinslayer’ with Ike Vil of BABYLON WHORES on guest vocals, took the band into controversial territory with its theme based on the April 20th 1999 Columbine school massacre.
The album was preceded in their homeland by a record breaking no. 1 single 'Ever Dream' which occupied the top position for a five week run, gaining another Platinum award.
A third single lifted from the album for Finnish release on 24th November, 'Kuolema Tekee Taiteilijan', included a B side live version of MEGADETH's 'Symphony Of Destruction', recorded live at the Nosturi in Helsinki in October.

Wishmaster is the band's third outing, and unlike a lot of power metal bands, Nightwish doesn't stay exactly the same from album to album.
Wishmaster is a great release from Nightwish and it should be the place for new fans to start.
I think "Wishmaster" will appeal most to people who value melody, harmony, and balance in their music as opposed to those who favor heaviness or sheer guitar drive or are finicky about their metal.

To the song "Wishmaster" the band has borrowed some names from fantasy-books "The Lord of the Rings" (I read from the homepage, that it's their favorite book...) and the Dragonlance -saga.
Wishmaster is the last full-lenght studio-album of the "old" Nightwish.

The album Wishmaster is the follow-up to Oceanborn, which was released 2 years ago.
On Wishmaster Tuomas handles some rather difficult issues and because of it Nightwish has lost a bit of the trademark "power metal sound".
It's a shame that there are no male vocals on this album to bring variety to the music and this is the only weak point in this almost perfect album.

The third full studio album from the Finnish band Nightwish was to no surprise another masterpiece and one of the top metal releases of the year.
The best songs on this album (The Kinslayer, Wishmaster, FantasMic and a couple more) are even better than the ones on Oceanborn but unfortunately there are a little bit too many slow ballads on Wishmaster, an area not really suited for the Nightwish sound.
Wishmaster was produced by the band and Tero Kinnunen.

Kurt Cobain and Layne Staley must be rolling in their graves as this album is being played all over the world.
"Wishmaster"'s lyrics usually cover dark and sometimes terrible ground but do so without being depressing and hopeless, veering well away from the excessively nihilistic or satanic.
She is my Sin- 4.5/5: An intriguing song to say the least, the beat was fast paced and the lyrics left you with the chills; but it was good.

In Finland it became a mini (only the first four songs) and in the rest of the world, they made a complete CD of it.
The other tracks on the album are live tracks, which are probably on the worldwide version, because the 'From Wishes To Eternity'-CD (from the video) is available only in Finland.
The new tracks on the CD turned out a slight disappointment, so the rating is counted like this; 6.5 for the new tracks and 9 for the great live tracks, which the Finnish people won't have.

This album was perhaps the one where Nightwish's powerful, driving "opera-metal" style of power metal became solidified in a very coherent sound, not to mention a sound that holds up with little variation in quality throughout the album.
This is one area in which the album differs from "Oceanborn:" there aren't as many incredible breakdowns on this one.
This album is going to be a 4 because the quality of the melodies on this album are stellar everywhere, and the playing and musical skills of the whole band is at a high.

Of course, the ballads - which very often are the singles of the albums - also do their pile of work, but these tunes are so obscurely addictive, so deliberately mind-controlling that it’s impossible even for the most A4, nine to five-working Jones or Smith not to stamp his feet.
On the average Italian Power-Metal album this would have been a highlight, but on an effort by Nightwish, it becomes one of the more mediocre tracks on the album.
Of course, for a fan of Opeth (whose albums seldom consists of more than one of two songs clocking in a under ten minutes) 8,17 minutes is nothing special, but for a mainstream pop-band like Nightwish (see above) this is quite special.

Their third studio release, Wishmaster, is my personal favorite album (as a whole, but I enjoy some songs from Oceanborn more in general) from the symphonic metal giants.
The album comes in nicely with the heavy She Is My Sin, one of my personal favorites on the album, combining electronics nicely with heavy riffs from Emppu and wonderful drumming from Jukka.
Two For Tragedy is the signature ballad on the album (one per album), and it's my personal favorite (of their works thus far; followed closely by Swanheart and Angels Fall First).

The album starts strong, with the powerful track, "The Kinslayer," which is heavier than many other tracks on the CD, but at one point, almost seems to contain a classic struggle between good and evil.
It takes all of about 10 seconds of the opener ("She Is My Sin") before Tarja's powerful style wins you over and makes you a believer that true opera vocals CAN and DO work over super-melodic hard metal.
This album reached #1 on the Finnish charts in May 2000 when it was released in Europe and then gold.

And though an EP and live album were released to hold fans over, Nightwish's next full-length album was one of the most anticipated releases of 2002.
"Forever Yours" is the lone ballad on the album, but an amazing one it is. To put it simply, it is songs like this that remind me why I worship Tarja as a Goddess; her voice literally BLEEDS emotion as she wails out a melody that any other band can barely dream of.
And at last, the album comes to a close with what is, quite possibly, my all time FAVORITE song: the epic "Beauty of the Beast".

This album was actually what got me into the band (ironically, being that it hasn't been released here yet), and I had a retro-active progression from there.
If I had to pick a least favorite song on the album, I suppose this would be the one, but that's more of a statement of how incredible the rest of the album is than anything that's particularly wrong with this track.
Once was what got me into the band, and I subsequently took a rapid crash course through the rest of their catalogue, and it still is special for me because it was what got me into the band and what I recognized the most from when I saw them.

This is the first Nightwish album that i've listened to, and it deserves all the 5 star ratings that it has gotten.
It's one of those albums where it seems simple at first, but after listening to it you start to notice lots of little details, and you're forced to keep coming back to hear them again.

"Wishmaster" is everything I'd hoped this band would evolve into.
This was the second album that I ever heard by Nightwish.
There songs range from tributes to fantasy (FantasMic, Wishmaster) to love (She is my Sin, Come Cover Me), to depression (Dead Boy's Poem, which is really sad).

Many have also labeled Nightwish a goth/metal band due to the lyrics and the mood their albums evoke, and I can understand that.
'Once' is a slightly mellower Nightwish album in the vein of 'Century Child', keeping a healthy distance from the 'Wishmaster' assault on aural senses.
There are many highlights on the album to list them all, but Creek Mary's Blood is an epic majestic piece not to overlook; while, Nemo, the first single taken from the album, has already conquered the European charts and earned them rave reviews and a myriad of new followers, with its catchy pop appeal.
