Witness, a New Play by J.R. Teeter
To describe, simply, the nature of this play is difficult, but it could be said that there are there are three unifying themes surrounding all this material: Catherine "Kitty" Genovese, Tadeusz Kantor, and Death.
The play has over 30 characters, all real people whose dialogue was taken from a variety of non-fiction sources.
Most striking among these stylistic choices is the presence of the director on stage observing the action of the play, giving direction, and assisting in scenic changes as much of Kantor's work culminated with his presence on stage.

As the play opens, the woman is seated in a chair, bound and gagged, the man sitting opposite, observing her.
He methodically strips his captive naked, presumably rapes her, then proceeds to subject her to an ongoing series of rants, ruminations and reflections on life and love as he seeks to force the woman to understand him -- and, ultimately, to submit to him.
(Because of this play, Kirkland is generally credited with being the first actress to perform totally naked on the legitimate New York stage.) The man was played by Robert Drivas, to whom McNally dedicated the work.

Based upon the court's finding of insufficient evidence to support the allegation that Lortz was able to practice with reasonable skill and safety, the case was sent back to the Board of Medicine for reconsideration of the penalty imposed after the original hearing.
On its face the testimony of this expert witness appeared to support the hearing officer's finding, but careful examination revealed that this testimony fell short of the burden of proof necessary to find Lortz guilty.
Additionally, this case shows that it may be helpful to have an expert witness evaluate their situation and tender their opinion to the hearing officer to counter the assertions made by the expert testifying for the agency.

Anecdotes: Unsure if he could play a man with a heart condition, Charles Laughton (Sir Wilfrid) staged a heart attack in the pool one day at home.
'Witness for the Prosecution' is one of the most interesting courtroom dramas that has a bunch of twists and turns, very similar to other courtroom dramas such as '12 Angry Men.' Tyrone Power is terrific.
These two brought light humor and wit to the movie as we see Laughton's Sir Wilfrid disobey Lanchester's Nurse Pimsoll's orders, by smoking and drinking without her noticing, even though knowing he could drop dead at any moment.

SPAG Game Reviews T-Z   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-15)
The text of the play is virtually all there within the game, and, essentially, when you do something right, the play moves along; you're given a series of situations within the play where the action stops, in a sense, and you need to do something to restart it.
And even though there is a feeling of being distinct from the play, in that the prompts only come when the action stops and you have to restart it, that does reinforce the sense that you're controlling the events on the island and the various characters are, in a sense, puppets.
The reason that players are finding this puzzle so difficult is that it requires rather close knowledge of the play (and not just of the play's first scene), which most players, even very well educated ones, are not likely to have at their fingertips.
