		Witcham is a small village near Ely in Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom.
		The village has a pub called the White Horse (Winner of the Ely and District CAMRA Rural Pub of the Year Award 2006) and a fine village green.
		Witcham is built around a cross-roads in the centre of the village with each of the four roads having housing on each side for 50-200m.

		Witcham was for centuries an island in the swamps.
		The oldest houses in Witcham date from Tudor and Stuart times, but most were built in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
		Witcham helmet was discovered in the 19 century and is a superb example of a Roman Cavalry helmet of the 3-century; it is mostly made of bronze, lined with iron and has cheek pieces and guards for forehead and neck.

		Whilst it isn't good for stonework (or brick) to have roots growing through their mortar, there would be something very striking about a tree growing on a tower like this, projecting high into the fenland skies.
		There is more brick, but not as a result of collapse, because Witcham has one of Cambridgeshire's two 15th century brick porches (the other one is at Brinkley, near Newmarket).
		The overall effect is a bit jumbled: in the upper half of the slab is carving of an ionic column with a fire on top, and some of the names come very close to effacing it.
