AD&D Character Class:  Wizard of High Sorcery
Wizards may face each other as enemies in the world beyond those walls, for such is the way of the universe, but they are always brothers.
Wizards of High Sorcery will be devoted to one of the Krynn gods of magic, whose names are the same as the moons affiliated with their power, Solinari for the good white robes, Lunitari for the neutral red robes, or Nuitari for the evil fl robes.
Because of the spell type limitations and the limits to the number of spells which may be in a character's spell book, it is recommended that the player character have in mind from the creation of the character whether he expects that character to join the White, Red, or Black robe.

A character's class is like a profession or career, it determins what skills your character has been practiceing and developing throughout the course of his life to date.
Classes are divided into four groups according to general occupations: warrior, wizard, priest, and rogue.
To become a dual-classed human the character must have a score of 15 or more in the prime requisite of his/her first class and at least a 17 in the prime requisite of any class he/she is switching to.

The Quintessential Wizard is a sourcebook that will greatly expand this class, fleshing out the wizard from his typical role as a source of magical artillery to a character with more options and variants than any other in the game.
Of all the character classes depicted within the d20 system, the wizard is the most versatile.
Sooner or later most wizards will feel the need for a secure and protected place to perform their research, and will construct a tower based on the principles of arcane geometry, some in cities, others upon or beneath the waves, others still atop clouds or volcanoes, or even on another plane of existence.

A character's class determines his strengths and weaknesses, abilities and restrictions, and so on.
You can choose one class for a character or, if non-human, you can multiclass, sharing experience points equally between classes and gaining both the abilities and restrictions of each class.
For example, if Zaxxon, a level 3 wizard, dual-classes to become a wizard/cleric, he loses the ability to cast mage spells until he is a level 4 cleric.

J'Dai (Psionic Monk) AD&D Character Class
Although this class is similar to what an hypothetical 1st edtition Monk/Psionicist multi-class may be, it is a seperate class, under the newer Psionicist grouping (as opposed to the Warrior, Wizard, Priest, or Rogue groups).
This class is available to evil characters as well, with the same powers and progressions, although the DM probably shouldn't allow evil J'dai (S'th) as a class to players, reserving them for NPCs.
Although Neutral characters are possible, they are even more rare than the class itself is, and would tend to be an interim phase, as most who begin to commit evil deeds (or good deeds) tend to continue to do so, sliding all the way from Good to Evil.

However, despite this, Wizards are often core members to any group because of the power of their spells, so once again, the strength of this class is tied into the utility of the spells.
Class Packages: The Class Packages available to the Wizard are a little different than other classes in that it has a real affect on what’s available to the character.
What the Wizard does benefit from, though, is the ability to scribe any number of spells into their spellbook while the Sorcerer will always have a limited number of spells available.

The Collector Series continues with the Quintessential Wizard and if you take a peek at Mongoose's schedule you'll see that the next two in the series are Elf and Dwarf and it's August when the series comes back to cover character classes with the Quintessential Monk.
The Quintessential Wizard, however, is a book that sets out to add further flavour and detail to the Wizard character class and so is entirely able to present a wide range of prestige classes without falling foul of my nit-picking wrath.
Although the trusty wizard's staff had a mention in the tools of the trade chapter they're revisited later on in the book with a chapter all of their own.
