Wizardry 8 is certainly something of an anomaly in today's RPG market, which is dominated by action hybrids like Deus Ex and Diablo.
The world of Wizardry 8 is a strange amalgam of sci-fi and high fantasy elements.
Wizardry 8 forgoes the tedium of using repetitive die rolls to assign attribute points, instead going with the quicker method of giving each race a base level of points and letting the player assign bonus points to attributes of his or her choice.

Wizardry 8 for PC Review - PC Wizardry 8 Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Wizardry 8 is the first game with 3D polygonal graphics that Sirtech has ever developed, but you wouldn't know that by looking at the game.
The same can be said for Wizardry 8's environments; though some parts of the game, particularly outdoor zones, tend to look rather blocky, they're all textured simply but cleanly and all do an excellent job of looking like distinct areas, including stony dungeons, treetop cities, and open roads.

Home of the Underdogs - Entry: Wizardry I-II-III: Story of Llylgamyn   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
Wizardry I-II-III is an excellent remake of the first three Wizardry games for the Super Nintendo, combined in one "game" that lets you play each of the three titles in any order (with the ability to import your party as well).
In Wizardry I, you (that is, your party of six adventurers) journey deep into a ten-level dungeon of Trebor, the "Mad Overlord," to defeat the evil archmage Werdna and retrieve the magical amulet.
In each Wizardry game, the basic gameplay is similar: you control a party of up to six adventurers and send them into a 3D vector dungeon to fight monsters and find treasure on your way to fight Werdna/find the staff/find the Orb.

While Wizardry 8's 3D graphics engine is not as beautiful as current first person shooters, that's to be expected considering the number of years it has been in development.
Since Wizardry 8 doesn't have static representations of your party, or even mildly animated faces as in Planescape: Torment, as party members converse with you, you can see their lips move.

Far before most of the gaming population today started realizing what computers are, the first six parts of the Wizardry serial had already been on the market for various platforms - from consoles to personal computers with but a couple of megabytes of RAM on them, for quite some time.
Wizardry VIII follows the footsteps of its predecessor.
Even though Wizardry is primarily a fantasy game, it features one character class that would be more typical for SF - the Gadgeteer, which is capable of combining various items and using advanced technology.

Wizardry 8 is the latest game in a series that has spanned over 20 years and once again sees you battling the forces of evil in this turn based RPG.
Set across a science fiction genre, Wizardry 8 to some will be slightly different from what they have come to expect from the traditional RPG and the introduction of robots, guns and the odd spaceship to this fantasy space romp can seem strange at first.
Combat, as before is turn based and choosing your party is still driven by stats; the accompanying 72-page manual is full of stats and tables to work out the superior strength of a Lizard man over a Bishop for example.

 Wizardry IV Solution
Wizardry IV is fundamentally different from other games in the Wizardry line, and fairly different from most other RPGs.
You play Werdna, the evil magician who was defeated in Wizardry I. Throught the entire game, you still play like the enemy, meaning that you generally follow the rules the engine creates for the monsters, rather than ones for the players.
In Wizardry IV, there is no benefit to hanging out on a level for extended periods of time: you don't get any tougher, you generally won't get better equipment (as all of the good stuff is found in fixed encounters) and the parties out looking for you will just grind you down.
