As for the Green Standard Army, it had consisted of a numerical strength of about 600,000 ethnic Han Chinese troops throughout most of the 18th century, and were divided into combat troops and garrison forces.
There are extant examples of both the "wodao" and the "zhanmadao" in the collection of the Forbidden City Palace Museum.

The '''wodao''' (literally "sword/knife of the ''wo'' people") is a China Chinese sword from the Qing Dynasty.
Apparently influenced by Japanese sword design, it bears a strong resemblance to a Tachi or Odachi in form: extant examples show a handle approximately 25 cm long, with a gently curved blade 80 cm long {{china-stub}} {{weapon-stub}} Category:East Asian swords

But 浪淘音's point was that the changdao/miaodao was not exactly the same as the wodao.
If anything, I would argue that the changdao in their original design is more differnt from what we know as the miaodao today than the wodao.
The reason why the term 'miaodao' existed in the first place was because during the early republican era, a warlord named Cao Kun曹錕 had his troops eqiuped with the wodao.

General Qi had also stipulated compulsory 2-person combat drills using wooden sticks for mock practice, for use in his army.
In my opinion, later on, the Ming "changdao" appears to have evolved into the "wodao" during the Qing Dynasty, as a 2-handed saber used by the Green Standard Army.

The Chinese seem to have moved towards the Turko-Mongol curved sabre form for cavalry and the flared qudao 曲刀 for infantry from the Song dynasty onwards, however.
When the Japanese 'pirates' were fighting Ming government troops on the southeastern coast, the Ming troops began adopting the katana and no-dachi (two-handed long sword) as the wodao 倭刀, and thus arose the idea that the sword was uniquely Japanese.
