Racing Victoria officials late yesterday announced it would give compensation and help to trainers and owners in the Wodonga area after today's race meeting in the town had to be transferred to Seymour in the face of threatening bushfires.
With thick smoke hovering over the Wodonga racecourse and the threat of bushfires in the area, Racing Victoria officials were forced to move the meeting 200 kilometres closer to Melbourne at Seymour.
Wodonga and outlying areas have been placed on full-alert in the past three days as fluctuating winds have moved fires closer to the border township.

The new four-lane freeway begins in Wodonga, Victoria, where the Hume Freeway meets the Lincoln Causeway, and extends north-east, ending at Ettamogah, north of Albury, NSW; linking the Hume Freeway at Wodonga in Victoria with the Hume Highway at Ettamogah in NSW.
As part of the project, a second crossing of the Murray River between Albury and Wodonga will be constructed, along with a 3.7km road link to Bandiana, connecting the Murray Valley Highway, south east of Wodonga with the Hume Freeway.
While the major portion of the Albury Wodonga Hume Freeway Project (AWHFP) is funded by the Australian Government, the Victorian State Government is contributing to the Victorian section of the project, including the arterial link known as the Bandiana Link from Murray Valley Highway to the Hume Highway.

We made straight for the licensing office and were told that the mechanical safety we had was not valid, we needed one to be done in the state of Victoria (ours was NSW).

In the early 1970's, approximately 200 "brand new" WW2 Studebaker army trucks in crates, were stored in a WW2 tunnel near Bandiana in Victoria.
Access to the tunnel was via an old Army Nissen hut located against the side of a hill.
Another source believes that the Studebakers and Harley Davidson motor cycles where lined up in trenches and run over by a large tank in an oval in the Army grounds at Bandiana.
