Wojciech Fortuna was born on 6th March 1952 in Zakopane.
Wojciech Fortuna started in a few seasons after the Olympics in Sapporo but then he never had as high form and never made as big success as in 1972.
In 2001 Wojciech Fortuna published his autobiography in the USA ("The happiness in the air").

Adrianus Ard Schenk (born September 16, 1944) is a former Dutch speedskater.
In ski jumping, Wojciech Fortuna from Poland won his country first gold medal, while the host nation performed a clean sweep of the other ski jumping event, also winning its first Olympic winter gold.
On a historical note, the 1972 Games were the last Olympic Winter Games where a skier would win the gold medal using all-wooden skis.

This is the fifth medal for Poland in the history of the Winter Olympics and the first since 1972 when Wojciech Fortuna won gold in the big hill event at Sapporo.
About 1,000 Polish fans, most from various corners of the United States, accompanied by organized groups from Poland-including cities such as Legnica, Szczecin and Żywiec-arrived in SLC to root for Małysz.
Fortuna, the only Polish gold Winter Olympic medalist, now living in the United States, said that Małysz was the favorite for Wednesday's big-hill competition.
