 HISTORY (1881-1921)
Hopes of Upper Silesians connected with the union with Poland were evoked by the defeat of Germany in the war of 1914-1918 and the fact that Poland gained its independence.
An activity of an outstanding politician, Wojciech Korfanty and three uprisings, 1919-1920-1921 were an expression of those hopes.
The uprising ideas found their artistic expression in a bronze monument, The Monument of the Silesian Insurgents, (the sculpture - Gustaw Zemla, the architecture - Wojciech Zablocki) which was erected at Rondo (the roundabout) in 1967 (on the grounds of the former Tiele-Winckler's court park).
