 Wojeck
Wojeck was a kind of "edutainment," since viewers were supposed to absorb some sort of moral lesson about the country's social ills while enjoying their hour of diversion.
Wojeck featured a strong male lead, Dr. Steve Wojeck, superbly played by John Vernon, who was backed up by a "team" that included his wife (the understanding helpmate), an assistant (efficient but unobtrusive), and a sometimes reluctant crown attorney (the well-meaning bureaucrat).
Wojeck was the engaged liberal: an advocate for the powerless committed to reforming the practices of the system so that it ensured justice for all.

Wojeck - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Although it was one of the highest-rated shows on Canadian television in its time, only 20 episodes of the series were made, because Vernon was lured to Hollywood by the promise of more money than the CBC could offer.
He only returned to the role once, for a TV-movie Wojeck: Out of the Fire (1992).
In 2002, Wojeck became a MasterWorks honouree by the Audio-Visual Preservation Trust of Canada.

I rarely watched this series as a kid because to me the name "Wojeck" had a particularly sinister ring to it.
Of course, I should have realized by the show's occasional set of bare breasts that Wojeck was not a program created for kids, but for adults.
The later American series Quincy seemed to be a complete ripoff of Wojeck, but didn't come close to approaching it as a work of cinematic art.

 CBC Television Series 1952 to 1982, Woj-Wre
Wojeck, created by Phillip Hersch, was inspired by the headlines that Dr. Morton Shulman made as Toronto's chief coroner.
He regularly questioned the decisions he had to make and, though he was in some senses a typical hero and paragon of virtue, he was invested with a greater vulnerability and depth, and differed from the standard television hero.
The other regulars on the series were Ted Follows as Crown Attorney Arnie Bateman, Patricia Collins as Wojeck's wife, Marty, and Carl Banas as Detective Sergeant Byron James, with occasional appearances by Jamey Weyman and Tanis Montgomery as Stevey and Judy, the Wojecks' son and daughter.
