The Town of Wolcott is in the northeast corner of the county.
The town was later reduced in size by the formation of new towns in the county: Bulter, Huron, and Rose, all in 1826.
The discovery of iron ore in the county led to the smelting operation at Wolcott furnace north of Wolcott village from 1821 to 1869.

The town liesin the northeast corner of Wayne county, and is bounded on the north by Lake Ontario, on the east by Cayuga county, on the south by Butler, and on the west by Huron and the lake.
The town was settled with a class of hardy, resolute men and women, who were endowed 'with sterling traits of character and remarkable powers of endurance, and whose keen perception, habits of thrift, and personal characteristics are inherited by their descendants and permeate the communities in which they lived.
WOLCOTT VILLAGE.- This is one of the pleasantest villages in Wayne county.

Consisting of over 28,800 acres, the current town of Wolcott is composed of an undulating surface with a general incline toward the lake.
The town was named after Gov. Oliver Wolcott of Massachusetts, one of the commissioners settling the controversy of the Massachusetts - New York boundaries.
One of the landmarks of wolcott is the statue of "Venus Rising From the Sea" at the four corners in downtown Wolcott.

Her husband was the youngest son of Roger Wolcott, a former governor of the State and was thirty-three years old at the time of their marriage, ten years the senior of the bride he brought to his home in the old town of Litchfield.
Wolcott wrote in March, 17777: "I have this instant rec'd a Letter from Dr. Smith, of the 12th, wherein he tells me that you and the children have been inoculated for the Small Pox and that he apprehended you were so far thro' it as to be out of Danger, Casualities excepted....
Wolcott was no less known for the transparent simplicity and integrity of his character than for his intellectual powers and unremitting devotion to the public duty.

 Governor Roger Wolcott
He was the father of Oliver Wolcott, a signer of the Declaration of Independence as well as Governor of Connecticut from 1796-1797, and the grandfather of Oliver Wolcott, Junior, Governor of Connecticut from 1817-1827.
Wolcott was chosen an Assistant in 1714, serving during a period when Connecticut's government chose to cooperate with England in order to offset the continuing efforts of British politicians to portray Connecticut as a rebellious colony and revoke her liberal 1662 Charter.
Wolcott spent the much of the remainder of his life on his farm, cultivating his land, and served as an elder statesman, on call if the government needed him.

The management of the Town of Wolcott and the town justices are responsible for the financial affairs of the town court and for safeguarding its resources.
We strongly urge the Town Board to prepare a corrective action plan which would be available for public review in the town clerk's office and the Office of the State Comptroller.

He is a Republican in politics, and represented the town of Woodbury in the Orange County board of supervisors in 1908-09, and resigned that office when he was elected town superintendent of highways of Central Valley for a term of two years.
He is a Democrat in politics, being secretary of the Rockland County Democratic Committee, and was elected a justice of the peace of the town of Clarkstown, New York, in November, 1905, for a full term of four years and re-elected again in 1909 for a second time.
On arriving in new York he was baptized in the East River by the Rev. Charles Lahatt, past of the Bethel Baptist Church of New York.
