The Town of Wolcott is in the northeast corner of the county.
The discovery of iron ore in the county led to the smelting operation at Wolcott furnace north of Wolcott village from 1821 to 1869.

THE old town of Wolcott, comprising the present towns of Butler, Wolcott, Huron, and Rose, was set off from the north end of Junius, Seneca county, on the 24th of March, 1807, but a legal organization was not effected until April, 1810.
WOLCOTT VILLAGE.- This is one of the pleasantest villages in Wayne county.
Wolcott village was incorporated February 24, 1852, and re-incorporated in February, 1873.

Joshua D. Wolcott, 26, formerly of 22½ Main Street, Marathon, New York, today plead guilty to 19 counts of a federal indictment which charged Wolcott with the distribution and possession of child pornography.
Wolcott admitted that in February of 2002 his computer system was configured to distribute child pornography to individuals through certain Internet Relay Chat (IRC) rooms that promoted the trading of child pornography.
Wolcott was eventually arrested on January 27, 2006 in Grand Juction, Colorado.

The town is situated near the center of the county, east of the West Transit, and is bounded on the north by Elm; on the east by Wales, on the south by Colden and on the west by East Hamburg.
The construction of the Buffalo, New York and Philadelphia (now the Western New York and Pennsylvania) Railroad in 1867 gave the latter place a new impetus, and in 1873 the old village corporation was extended over both villages, which took the name of East Aurora.

 George Wolcott
GEORGE B. WOLCOTT, private in the Forty-fourth Regiment, Company E, New York State Volunteers, was born at Penn Yan, Yates County, New York, August 31, 1848.
The regiment's term of service having expired, and but ten of the company being "present for duty," this remnant was consolidated with the One Hundred and Fortieth New York Volunteers, and fought with it in the closing campaign, and were mustered out in June, 1865.
N. was instantly killed in the battle of Gettysburg, by a rifle ball in the neck, He entered the service last summer with some of his fellow students of the Normal School at Albany, and has been a devoted, earnest and faithful Soldier of the Republic.
