		The Wolf River is a small alluvial river of West Tennessee and North Mississippi, whose confluence with the Mississippi River was the site of various Chickasaw, French, Spanish and American communities and forts that eventually became Memphis, Tennessee.
		Note: This river should not be confused with the Wolf River of Middle Tennessee which flows along the Cumberland Plateau nor should its headwaters in North Mississippi be confused with the estuarine Wolf River that flows past Pass Christian, Mississippi into the Gulf of Mexico via St.
		The Wolf River area is home to deer, otter, mink, bobcat, fox, coyote, turkey and a wide variety of waterfowl.

		The Wolf River of Middle Tennessee rises on the Cumberland Plateau at the confluence of its three forks.
		It crosses briefly into Clinton County, Kentucky where its water becomes slack due to the impoundment of Dale Hollow Dam on the Obey River; in fact, its confluence with the Obey is essentially located at a corner comprised of Pickett County, Tennessee, Clay County, Tennessee, and Clinton County, Kentucky.
		This stream is not to be confused with the Wolf River of West Tennessee which flows into the Mississippi at Memphis.

		The Wolf is a "running cypress swamp" river, similar in appearance to the Louisiana cypress swamps you've all seen in movies but with moving water instead of still water.
		The upper Wolf is a near pristine example of a river environment that was once prevalent in the central portion of the Mississippi River basin - most of the others have been channelized and damaged in other ways, and few if any are close to the Wolf in beauty and abundant wildlife.
		The upper Tennessee part contains wilderness sections of the river and a large stillwater lake/swamp called "Ghost River." Some parts of the river are almost still, some have a moderate current, and some parts are relatively fast water where the river runs over terrain anchored by cypress trees ("cypress rapids").
