 Volume 3: Literature on Perspective
In Wolfenbttel there were three individuals, unflinching in their support, whom I thank particularly: Professor Paul Raabe, then Director of the Herzog August Bibliothek; Dr. Sabine Solf, Leiterin des Forschungsprogramms and the late Dr. Hans-Heinrich Solf.
A generous series of fellowships from the Volkswagen, Humboldt, Thyssen and Gerda Henkel Foundations made it possible to work part-time on the bibliography at the Herzog August Bibliothek in Wolfenbttel while doing research on Leonardo da Vinci's perspective and optics (September 1977-September 1984).
The discovery that Professor Luigi Vagnetti had been working independently for thirty years on a bibliography transformed the scope of the project.

As a co-operative enterprise of the Universität zu Köln, the Universitäts- und Stadtbibliothek Köln and the Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel, this project aims to digitize a comprehensive corpus of incunabula representative of the holdings of both libraries.
In order to cover the widest range of incunabula production and to avoid overlapping, the earlier incunabula are being digitized in Cologne, the later in Wolfenbüttel.
As a consequence, the electronic catalogue will be and remain more up to date than the printed one.

 Ferdinand Albrecht II. (1680-1735)
Ferdinand Albrecht I., was the first duke to rule in the principality of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel from the branch line of Bevern.
On the news of the death of his father-in-law, Ferdinand Albrecht resigned his position as imperial field marshal and in 1735 took up the rule as duke in the capital city of Wolfenbüttel.
Ferdinand Albrecht won the trust of king Friedrich Wilhelm I. of Prussia (soldier king), and from that resulted the famous Prussian-Brunswick marriage alliance.

The conditions of peace included the transfer of the electoral dignity from the former to his cousin Maurice, the reinstatement of Duke Henry of Wolfenbüttel in his dominions, the restoration of Bishop Julius von Pflug to his See of Naumburg-Zeitz, and a promise demanded of the vanquished to recognize and attend the Council of Trent.
The emperor during this respite renewed his earnest but fruitless efforts to effect a religious settlement, while the Smalkaldic confederates continued their violent proceedings against the Catholics, particularly in the territory of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel, where Duke Henry was unjustly expelled, and the new religion introduced (1542).
The princes of Saxony and Hesse were appointed military commanders of the confederation, and its military strength fixed at 10,000 infantry and 2000 cavalry.
