Wolverhampton's Civic Hall has been one of the most important live music venues in the UK's West Midlands for several decades, though for many of the bigger names, the venue is in competition with Birmingham's Carling Academy, among others.
Along with its slightly smaller neighbour, the Wulfun Hall, and the newest smallest venue, the Little Civic, it continues to attract big name acts, such as Blur and Radiohead.
The Civic is a really cool place to go.

penoyre & prasad projects - Wolverhampton Civic Halls, Wolverhampton   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-03)
The Grade II listed Wolverhampton Civic and Wulfrun Halls were built in the late 1930’s following a design competition in 1934 won by Lyons and Israel, the first major commission for this young partnership, to provide the city with a large concert hall and a smaller hall, the Wulfrun, for chamber concerts and theatre performances.
Today the main function of both halls is for popular music and it is an important venue within this sector.
In addition to reorganizing the building to give an increased capacity of 3000 within the Civic Hall, it has been possible to restore the qualities of space and spatial relationships lost through previous additions and piecemeal alterations, especially in respect of the public spaces such as the foyer, promenades and the main auditorium.

HIM: Wolverhampton Civic Hall, 20th October 2004 - REVIEW
For those of you who have never been to see a gig in Wolverhampton before- there are a couple of things that perhaps you should know which make going to gigs at Wolverhampton a very unique experience.
the car park for Wolverhampton Civic Hall is just opposite the venue- which means it takes ten seconds to get to the venue from the car park- which is useful when it is raining cats and dogs outside.
Secondly, the staff/security at Wolverhampton are very polite and helpful which just creates a wonderful atmosphere- you feel like human beings rather than cattle being rammed into a tiny space, which is how I often feel at most other venues.

But I have to admit my heart sank a little as I realised the podgy man waddling onto the stage at the Wolverhampton Civic was the Manic's frontman and not the support band The Delays.
When the initial wave of disappointment ebbed away and I remembered I was late and had actually missed the support band it didn't matter one bit as the Manics launched into a masterful, crowd-pleasing set with something for everyone, not least the comfort of knowing Nicky Wire was as gangly as ever.
It would be tempting to think of the Manics as the province of angry middle-aged class warriors and there were plenty on show, but the mixed crowd was refreshingly eclectic as 'angst-ridden' teens with the ubiquitous fl make-up shared the venue warmly with Tony and Tina and their runaway tots.
