Topic: Wolverine (Amtrak)

  Congressman Fred Upton
Amtrak is an essential transportation link for small urban and rural communities across America; for many it is the only affordable and convenient public transportation.
Ridership on the Wolverine trains in 2004 was 366,291 passengers, up 12.2 percent from the 326,367 passengers who rode the trains during the 2003 fiscal year.
Amtrak's $1.2 billion request will allow Amtrak to continue to operate its current system, continue its work toward a state-of-good-repair and stability, and make critically needed investments to return rolling stock and infrastructure.

MARP - Michigan Association of Railroad Passengers
The study was prompted by continued complaints from passengers regarding AMTRAK’s timeliness performance.
A preliminary study conducted by MARP in June-July, 2004 indicated serious timeliness delays, some of which were considered perhaps due to startup problems on the Blue Water and other non-recurring events.
The westbound trips are clearly less reliable than eastbound, and the somewhat subjective honor of the worst performance is shared by the Blue Water westbound and the Wolverine mid-day westbound #353 trains.

 UTU: News
A trip onboard the Amtrak Wolverine demonstrated the possibilities and advantages that train travel offers -- but has never before delivered in the U.S. except on Amtrak's Northeast corridor where Acela trains crank it up to 150 m.p.h.
The higher speeds on the Wolverine are part of Amtrak and Michigan's plan to expand service and cut travel times on the first fast trains operating outside of Amtrak's express corridor between Boston, New York and Washington, where the railroad's Acela service runs at a 150 m.p.h.
Trains elsewhere in the Amtrak system are limited to 79 m.p.h., including Illinois, where the technological setbacks have delayed deployment of higher-speed service on Amtrak's Chicago-to-St. Louis corridor.
