The most lyrically ambitious and beloved song on Plastic Ono Band, “Working Class Hero,” is, like “Woman Is the Nigger of the World” taken at face value and assumed to be the insightful work of “two liberals in the sun,” when it is instead a convoluted guilt trip.

Rock Ahead: John Lennon CD - Plastic Ono Band,Double Fantasy
I would have preferred to hear just John on this album as I feel it lacks continuity but that comment aside, you get 'Woman' and 'Watching The Wheels' - a song that says more about the last few years of Lennon's life than any number of books published following his death in 1980.
By the time of 'Double Fantasy' Lennon was almost 40 and what you get is an album a 40-year old rock star would make, albeit interspersed with material from Yoko Ono.
This emphasises even more the sparseness of the Plastic Ono Band album.

One of my favorite songs not only by John Lennon, but now by PJ.
Thumbing my way....I was glad that we got this song, because its a nice switch up from the "Elderly Woman" type song and I'd prefer to hear this one because quite honestly I haven't heard it as much as songs like Elderly Woman, etc. Beautifully done tonight.
I've loved this song since I was like 10...and I saw it at Penn St. when Eddie did it acoustically...but now he did it with the band, and totally rocked out on it...wonderful wonderful version, totally surprised me and I totally loved it!

Give Peace a Chance - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Give Peace a Chance" was a hit song written by John Lennon, and credited as Lennon/McCartney.
John said, "All we are saying is give peace a chance," spontaneously, but liked the phrase and set it to music for the song.
Give Peace a Chance was the first single recorded by a solo Beatle, although it only reached number 14 on the pop charts in America and was kept out of the top slot in England by the Rolling Stones' "Honky-Tonk Woman.".

On the albums "Sgt. Pepper" and "Magical Mystery Tour" (both 1967), John Lennon's lyrics began to turn increasingly surreal ("I Am The Walrus"), as they are influenced by drugs, Eastern culture, and an obvious personal liberation reflected in the liberation of his artistic statement.
On this album, John penned the famous feminist statement "Woman Is The Nigger of the World" ("We make her bear and raise our children, and then we leave her flat for being a fat old mother hen.

Jarvis captures the sad tale of a woman deluding herself into remembering better times that never were while currently reduced to pathetic performances: "She loves the way they love her / And she's sure they're speaking of her / In a most sincere, and flattering sort of way."

Tower Records - Walking On Thin Ice (Greatest Hits) - Yoko Ono
WALKING is named after the song Ono and John Lennon were working on the night of Lennon's murder.
Because Ono was introduced to the general public by such intentionally chaotic Ono/Lennon collaborations as 1968's controversial TWO VIRGINS, public perception of her work is limited to the image of the tiny Japanese woman yowling and ululating over squalling guitar feedback and manipulated tapes.
WALKING ON THIN ICE, a handy 19-track condensation of 1991's four-disc ONOBOX collection, presents an illuminating and remarkable overview of the solo work of pop music's most misunderstood artist.

Most striking is her alterations to a song penned for Pang, "Surprise, Surprise (Sweet Bird of Paradox)": during the fadeout Ono has added a new voice-over that says "Yoko, I love her," an interesting addition for a work recorded when Ono wasn't even around.

The opening song of the studio album, "Woman Is the Nigger of the World" (a phrase Ono had coined in the late 1960's), was intended as a negation of sexism and was also issued as a single in the US to controversial reaction, and – as a consequence – little airplay and much banning.
