Prior to the advent of the PGA Championship and The Masters, the four Majors were the U.S. Open, the U.S. Amateur, the Open Championship, and the British Amateur.
The U.S. Womens Open Golf Championship is one of the LPGAs major championships along with the LPGA Championship, the Womens British Open, and the Kraft Nabisco Championship.
The Womens British Open, also known for sponsorship reasons as the Weetabix Womens British Open, is one of the leading events in womens professional golf, being the only tournament which is classified as a major by both the Ladies European Tour and the LPGA Tour.

As she stood on the putting green before the pro-am that preceded the Philips Invitational in Austin, Texas, she experienced the most pressure any athlete can undergo: knowing that unless she made money that week her career would be finished.
This week Stupples is at Sunningdale competing in the British Open, her status changed beyond recognition.
She is the best British woman on the US tour by a distance and is the only European, apart from Annika Sorenstam, to have won an event.

Australian Karrie Webb's love affair with the women's British Open continued on Thursday with a 5-under par 67 that earned her a share of the first round lead with American Solheim Cup player Wendy Ward.
Webb's first professional victory came in the event as a 20-year-old in 1995, and she arrived at Lytham St Anne's as the defending champion, although in the worst run of her eight year career.
But the 28-year-old powerhouse covered the four par five holes in 5-under par - the highlight was a 25 foot putt for eagle at the 15th - and confirmed she was on course for a possible fourth victory in the final major of the women's season.

The British Judo Association has chosen Birmingham’s National Indoor Arena to host the Great Britain Judo World Cup on 1st and 2nd April 2006 Previously the BJA held British Opens, the 1995 European Championships and 1999 World Championships at the venue.
Last year the BJA opened up a postal ballot for AGM resolutions, and whilst this was widely well received, there was criticism that the AGM debate itself was crucial to the way clubs vote on any given issue.
The women's under-57 kilo category is expected to be very competitive, with Michal Feinblat, in her first tournament since the Athens Olympics, expected to face the winner of the match between 16-year-old Yarden Gerbi, Israel Junior champ, and Hadar Brit, 17, in the semifinals.
