Wonderland Sydney was a theme park in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.
Wonderland opened with three separate themes within the park: Goldrush, Medieval Faire, and Hanna-Barbera Land which featured rides and attractions based on characters from Hanna-Barbera (today Cartoon Network Studios) shows such as Yogi Bear, Scooby-Doo and The Flinstones.
For many years, Wonderland's flagship ride was the Bush Beast which at the time was the largest wooden rollercoaster in Australia.

This ride was the newest ride at wonderland and was built in 1997 costing 10 millon dollars and 23 stories high.

The first place we visited in Sydney was Wonderland, a wildlife park and themepark in one.
We also had the chance to see kangaroos "with pouch young." I always thought kangaroos were big (there are such types, standing about 5 feet tall, I am told) but the ones we saw were very small (they looked like big rats) and yet they had joeys peeking out of their pouches.
The other part of Wonderland is a themepark where they have all sorts of rides and roller coasters.

I have heard gossip that the closure of Wonderland is related to the booming real estate values in that particular area.
If that is indeed the cause, then Wonderland would join a long list of theme parks that have closed when their property value exceeded their value as a park -- including Busch Gardens L.A., Marineland and Lion Country Safari just here in Southern California.

Then, at the end of 2001, the Sydney area suffered a series of brush fires, keeping people in their homes during the Christmas season, a time when Wonderland should have been enjoying its heftiest gates.
Because the property was surrounded by the fires, Wonderland offered itself as a rescue center for wildlife caught up in the flames, and the park became a triage center for veterinarians treating burned animals.
The park therefore formed the Wonderland Conservation Foundation last May. For its first campaign the foundation raised $20,000 (US$12,000) for one of the country’s own endangered animals, the cassowary, a large, flightless bird that’s universally regarded as the ugliest fowl on earth.
