"WooHoo" is a popular song written by George Donald McGraw, originally released by The Rock-A-Teens in 1959 (see 1959 in music).
It was later covered by English rock band The Revillos (under the name Yeah Yeah) and by the Japanese girl band The 5.6.7.8's on their 1996 album Bomb the Twist.
Chevrolet adopted "WooHoo" for its advertising of the new Chevy Cobalt, in a commercial that was broadcast in the United States in late 2004, concurrent with the Vonage campaign.

Anti-woohoo Efforts Update: We have heard, but not confirmed, that the band director has directed the band NOT to participate in the "woohoo".
If you notice after a touchdown, the band plays quietly (or not at all) for the Point After Attempt and usually picks up right after the "woohoo" would have been chanted.
Tiger Rag usually gets played one more time and the "woohoo" does end up being yelled but to a lesser extent.
Today, we find out that Verizon (NYSE: VZ) is doing its part to turn the woohoo into boo hoo by serving Vonage with a patent infringement lawsuit over its voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) technology.
Vonage only looks like a player because it spends so much on those "woohoo" ads, and sticks a banner on just about every Internet page this side of my dog's blog.
