 Wood Sandpiper a Yukon first at Hershel Island
The Wood Sandpiper at Pauline Cove on Herschel Island on August 9, 1996 was the Yukon's first and Canada's second documented occurrence of this species.
Canada's first Wood Sandpiper was observed on November 3-9, 1994 at Massett on the Queen Charlotte Islands, BC (Hamel and Hearne 1994).
While the Wood Sandpiper is relatively common in spring on the central and outer Aleutians (Armstrong 1995) it is considered accidental in the Beaufort Sea area (Johnson and Herter 1989).

 Wildlife - Wood Sandpiper
Superficially similar to green sandpiper but more elegant and with longer, yellow legs.
Seen mainly as rather scarce passage migrant to shallow wetlands in Britain and Ireland, mostly in August and September with juvenile birds predominating.

 Wood Sandpiper, Tringa glareola
It is similar to, and can be confused with, the slightly larger, heavier Green Sandpiper.
But the 2 species can be told apart by the supercilliary stripe which is bolder in the Wood Sandpiper and extends behind the eye.
The Wood Sandpiper also has a more mottled (spangled) effect to the back patterning.

 Tringa glareola
The Wood Sandpiper in all plumages is slimmer, leggier and more elegant than most other sandpipers, more like a small Redshank.
They are a paler brown than the Green Sandpiper and there is no obvious contrast between dark breast and pale belly.
In flight Wood Sandpipers show a neat, square white rump but they look brown and white not fl and white and their underwings are pale.

 Wood Sandpiper @ Herdsman Lake
Saw a pair of these at Maurice Hamer Reserve this afternoon.
I have never seen these before so I narrowed it down to Common Sandpiper, Wood Sandpiper and Grey Plover.
But going by features and other sightings I'm pretty sure these were Wood Sandpipers and a new bird for my list!
