Alexander John "Alex" Alexander V, of one of Central Kentucky's oldest families, died of a heart ailment Sunday, his 65th birthday, at Tanbark Health Care Center in Lexington.
The retired physician grew up on Woodburn Farm in Woodford County, which was in his family for more than 200 years.
The farm produced five Kentucky Derby winners, four Preakness winners and 10 Belmont winners and was home to Lexington, the leading sire in the United States from 1861 to 1874.
