This island to the west of Yamba is the second largest of the Clarence River’s 100 islands.

Woodford's passage, in company with her escort, the high-speed transport Runels (APD-85), was uneventful until early on 1 May, when Runels made a sound contact.
Woodford and her consorts subsequently sailed for Tokyo Bay, reaching that body of water on 8 September 1945; six days after the formal Japanese surrender ceremony on board the battleship Missouri (BB-62).

Munro Island Nature Reserve has an area of 14 hectares and is located approximately 1 km south-east of the village of Lawrence on the Clarence River, while Woodford Island Nature Reserve has an area of 372 hectares and is approximately 5 km south-west of Maclean.
NPWS Clarence North Area Manager, John Kennedy, said the Munro and Woodford Island Nature Reserve were gazetted as nature reserves in 1999 under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1974 (NPW Act).

Honychurch had been exploring the site at Woodford Hill for some years and has found several pieces of pottery, stone and shell in the past, but this is the first time that whole pots have been uncovered.
It appears that there was a thriving village of the so-called Arawak people who farmed the area, made cassava, ate shellfish, decorated their pottery and had close connections by canoe with Mariegalante.
The bowls were found on government land at Woodford Hill and as historic objects they fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education and the Public Library.
