Woodhead and Dunford West signalboxes were new from the time of the opening of the new tunnel in 1954 and reflected contemporary practice; they were light, airy and of stone construction reflecting the local environment.
The line from Dinting was rationalised to just a single track and Dinting took control of the furthest reaches of the western portion of the line at that time.
I walked the line in 1986 and at that time, the tracks were intact to the east of Valehouse and, ironically, were in a better condition than many operational lines.

At certain points on the Woodhead Line, notably in the vicinity of steam locomotive water-columns, the electric overhead lines were as high as 20 feet above the tracks.
However, the closure of the Woodhead Line between Hadfield in the West and Penistone in the East (July 1981) resulted in the withdrawal of the entire fleet.

The Woodhead Line was a railway line linking Sheffield to Manchester in the north of England.
The railway line was electrified in 1954 at 1.5 kV DC in a project known as the Manchester-Sheffield-Wath electrification (predating the later network standard of 25 kV AC).
Having seen major investment in the 1950s the line was controversally closed to passenger traffic on 5th January 1970 when it was clear that the alternative Hope Valley Line through Edale would be required to remain open for social and network reasons and could handle all Manchester–Sheffield passenger traffic.

Basically the problem with the Woodhead line was it was obsolete almost by the time it was electrified.
Woodhead was electrified to haul coal from South Yorkshire to the new power stations at Ince (among others).
This is not possible on most lines here but again it would be possible on the Woodhead line, though they'd have to have the tunnel single track.

1981 - Line between Penistone and Hadfield, including the Woodhead Tunnel is closed on 17th July and all but one of the class 76 electric locomotives are scrapped.
Limited trial were possible on the Altrincham suburban electric line (also 1,500 volt d.c.), but the real tests were carried out while the locomotive was on loan to the Netherlands in 1947.
