 Tintwistle - history
One of the biggest changes to the area around Tintwistle and Woodhead was the building of the reservoirs which were to supply pure water for Manchester.
Woodhead reservoir was the first to be contructed and work began in August 1848.
Permission was given in 1865 to start work on Bottoms and Valehouse reservoirs which were too low to supply water to Manchester but would be used to regulate the flow of water to the mills further downstream.

About the Woodhead place and name
It wasn't until I visited England at age 30 and was engrossed in studying old census records of the area around the town of Woodhead that I finally learned to be thankful for the name Woodhead.
It is the highest of a string of reservoirs that captures drinking water for the city of Manchester.
It could be that the Woodhead in Yorkshire is also named after a person, rather than vice versa, but my finding Woodbottoms in the area census makes me confident that the origin of Woodhead of Yorkshire is a geographical feature.

 Alicia Bessette
Reservoir is the first recording of original piano solos by Alicia Bessette.
With its ethereal melodies, Reservoir could be the soundtrack to a fall day in New England.
Each track wraps the listener up in its own story, capturing singular moments, such as snow melting, or the thought that crosses your mind before you blow out candles, or the act of sitting in a parked car, listening to rain.

 Brownlee Reservoir information and map
Brownlee Reservoir is by far the largest, covering 15,000 acres and is 58 miles long.
Since the reservoir is the border between Oregon and Idaho, anglers with a license in either state can use facilities of either state to put in or take out boats, as long as they do not fish from the shore, dock or a docked boat in the state which they do not hold a license.
Rainbow trout are stocked as fingerlings in Brownlee in spring and fall and grow in the reservoir to catchable size.

Immediately after mixing, 100 µl of solution was transferred to a pre-etched plastic tube with one end sealed with parafilm; the tubes were left in a moist environment for 2 h for clot formation to proceed to completion.
Permeation experiments were performed at different pressure heads, where the pressure was determined by the vertical distance between the buffer reservoir and the tip of the gel; pressure was kept constant during each experiment.
A dye, bromphenol blue, was applied to the clot after each experiment to detect leaks between the gel and the walls of the tube or defects in the clot itself, which were grounds for discarding the results from any such gel.

Walk #586: A circular walk from Crowden to Bleaklow
The Woodhead Road was clearly visible, and it was not long before the noise of the cars on it became audible, a nasty stain on an otherwise peaceful valley.
At the dam of Woodhead Reservoir I could cut across to the car park at Crowden, but I decided to continue on along the trail to Torside Reservoir dam to extend the walk slightly.
Once on the other side of the ford follow the track as it skirts the southern side of the stream as it heads northwestwards; when a bridge is reached cross it to gain access to a car park on the northern bank.

Work began on the reservoirs in 1848 and these were completed as follows: Arnfield and Hollingworth - 1854, Rhodeswood - 1855, Torside - 1864, Vale House - 1869, Bottoms and Woodhead - 1877.
Construction started on Woodhead dam in 1848 but instability in the underlying rock caused the embankment to leak badly and it had to be abandoned.
When the whole reservoir supply scheme was finally completed in 1884, it was a great achievement as the reservoirs were the longest chain in the world at that time.
