Woodhouse proposes that the weaknesses of the other ontologies—dualism, idealism, and materialism—can be avoided by adopting a “double-aspect theory which does not attempt to reduce either energy or consciousness to the other.” And he goes on to build his alternative ontology on a double-aspect foundation.
Woodhouse makes an illegitimate leap from epistemology to ontology when he says, “This [energy monism] is a dualism of perspective, not of fundamental stuff,” and concludes that “each is the other.” Given his epistemological double-aspectism, the best Woodhouse can do is claim to be an ontological agnostic (as, in fact, Dossey does).
