We decided not to ride up the road that heads north and west from the trailhead, but opted instead for an out and back on the singletrack.
I have only ridden the Woodlawn Picnic Area trails once and they were ok. We had driven up and camped out, ridden to the top of Mitchell on the road bikes Saturday and mtb'ed on Sunday.
A lot of folks park at Woodlawn and do the trails at the base of the mountain, which are fairly easy and not very long.
