Subject: Re: Woodstock II x 2 Having watched the original WOODSTOCK film (the new director's version, with Wadleigh's restored footage), several interesting points came to mind: 1) The majority of the artists present were there exclusively for the money, not the "be-in" atmosphere that overcame many of the attendants.
If Woodstock I was held in 1964, as I think it was, then it might be useful to remember that the 60s as a cultural phenomena were not born full grown on 1-1-60.
Specifically many of the commentators on this list looking at Woodstock seem surprised at the lack of "60s spirit" shown at Woodstock I. This may well be because most of the movements that characterize the 60s were still in their formative stage in 1964.

I've owned this 1994 MCA release for almost ten years and have long thought it was a lousy production, despite an amazing performance with the Band of Gypsies' often visionary group improvisation.
Not only that, the '99 release (called, "Live at Woodstock," this one is "Jimi Hendrix: Woodstock") actually has the tracks in order.
This is definitely not the best release of Hendrix's Woodstock live show, but this was the first of them.

History was not only recreated, but also significantly enhanced, on August 12, 13, and 14 at the Woodstock 1994 festival held in Saugerties, NY.
The Band's vocalist was really impressed with the festival and repeatedly said this festival was a lot better than the Woodstock '69 one (which he was there for).
And this is true, since the other festival didn't have water and food all around: I never had problems with food and it was quite cheap---I spent $5 on 2 hot dogs which was a decent meal.

It is called Woodstock, and it was the greatest bash known to man. If it was not for Lollapaloza '94, this historical anniversary might have actually topped the first celebration in 1969.
It seems as if it would be better as a prologue to this concert then a compilation or even a soundtrack.
