		This paper deals with the development of Woodward County in so far as it is related to agriculture, though ranching was the principal industry for ten years after the opening of the Cherokee Outlet.
		Woodward had had a steady growth since the opening and had never known "boom days." There was a population of 1,500 in 1903 and during the next two years it almost doubled.
		C. Mallory of Charleston in the northern part of the county was known as the "broom corn prince." In the spring of 1907 he delivered one hundred sixteen bales to Woodward.

		Lincoln and Pottawatomie Counties (formerly counties "A" and "B") date their beginning from the Land Run of September 22, 1891, which opened to public settlement three Indian reservations adjoining the former Unassigned Lands on the east.

		The Woodward tornadic storm began in the Texas Panhandle during the afternoon of April 9, 1947, and produced at least six tornadoes along a 220 mile path that stretched from White Deer, TX (northeast of Amarillo) to St. Leo, KS (west of Wichita).
		Normal communications between Woodward and the outside world were not restored for some time and there was great uncertainty as to victim status.
		The red tracks were originally reported to be from the Woodward tornado also, but are now thought to be other tornadoes in a family of 5 or 6 tornadoes.
